Goodbye OverDrive, Hello Libby!

As of TODAY, February 23, 2022, the OverDrive app is no longer available for new downloads from places where apps are purchased (the App Store, Google Play, the Microsoft Store, etc.). Instead, you’ll find Libby for all your eBook, audiobook, and eMagazine needs!

Does this mean my OverDrive app is going away?
Not right away! It just means that when you search “OverDrive” in the App Store from now on, Libby will show up. If you already have OverDrive, it will continue to exist during the transition to Libby. You will not lose any of your information.

So, I need to download a different app to continue the same services as OverDrive?
Yes, eventually! The goal is to phase out of OverDrive and into Libby exclusively by the end of 2022. In the meantime, you will be able to browse, borrow, and continue to use OverDrive as you have thus far.

What about the OverDrive website? Is that going away?
NO! You will still be able to access the OverDrive website to enjoy eBooks and audiobooks for free.

Okay, so I can still use the OverDrive website from a computer or mobile device. I have the OverDrive app, but that is changing to Libby. What do I have to do to make the switch?
First, head over to the App Store, Google Play, or the Microsoft Store. Search “Libby,” and download when prompted.
You’ll sign in the same way as you do with OverDrive, using your library card to sign in to the “North Dakota Library Consortium.” Once you’ve signed in, you’re off to the races!

What about the Amazon App Store?
At this time, there is no timeline for when Libby will be available from the Amazon App Store. Kindle users can still access the OverDrive website from a browser.

This is great, but I still have questions. What should I do?
The Lake Region Public Library will have a Libby introduction/training session on Saturday, March 12 at 11:00 am in the Community Room at the Lake Region Public Library.
You’ll be able to bring your devices and questions, and Maddie will walk you through this transition.
